Sunrise Rice is the university’s chapter of the national Sunrise Movement, a youth-led organization fighting for climate justice and a Green New Deal. As Rice’s only student group focused explicitly on political climate activism, Sunrise Rice mobilizes students to push for bold environmental policies at the local, state, and national levels.
Founded in 2024, Sunrise Rice empowers students to take action through civic engagement, art, and advocacy. Members organize teach-ins, voter registration drives, trips to City Hall, and creative campaigns that raise awareness and demand accountability from decision-makers. The group also collaborates with other sustainability organizations to amplify impact and build a united front for climate justice.
