Rice Urban Agriculture, founded in 2015, aims to teach people about sustainable agriculture and promote local, environmentally sound food on campus. With the students in Dr. Novak’s “The Design and Practice of Community Agriculture” course, the club grows a wide variety of plants in the Betty and Jacob Friedman Holistic Garden, collects pre-consumer waste from around campus to fuel a compost system, and serves as a distribution platform for produce and sale of plants.
